Hello warlocks of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the seventh episode of our warlock eldritch invocation series today we’re going to be taking a look at one of the most eldritch invocations out there. Today we’re taking a look at bewitching whispers.
This one is absolutely perfect for those warlocks who just love to be the puppet masters and control the battlefield from the sidelines. In any case let’s take a quick look at the description, so we kind of get we’re talking about.
Description
So first and foremost it might be worth noting that bewitching whispers does have a prerequisite and that is you have to be at least seventh level. By seventh level what this means is you have to have seven warlock levels, it does not count towards your overall level, so if you have like five levels of warlock and three levels of fighter you can’t pick this. In any acse the description written as followed.
You can cast compulsion once using a warlock spell slot. You can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.
Really interesting stuff and kind of confusing in terms of the way it’s worded. So something i would like to point out really quick here is you cannot do this at will, you have to use a warlocks spell slot for it, it’s just like compulsion isn’t a spell that is usually usable by the warlock. Compulsion 5e:
- Level: 4th
- Casting time: 1 Action
- Range/Area: 30 ft
- Components: V, S
- Duration: Concentration 1 Minute
- School: Enchantment
- Attack/Save: WIS Save
- Damage/Effect: Charmed
Creatures of your choice that you can see within range and that can hear you must make a Wisdom saving throw. A target automatically succeeds on this saving throw if it can’t be charmed. On a failed save, a target is affected by this spell. Until the spell ends, you can use a bonus action on each of your turns to designate a direction that is horizontal to you. Each affected target must use as much of its movement as possible to move in that direction on its next turn. It can take its action before it moves. After moving in this way, it can make another Wisdom saving throw to try to end the effect. Keep reading this devil’s sight 5e.
A target isn’t compelled to move into an obviously deadly hazard, such as a fire or pit, but it will provoke opportunity attacks to move in the designated direction.
So this is kind of a way to get that spell, it’s pretty great and i will explain why down below here. With that being said let’s take a look at the overview. Also read this fiendish vigor 5e.
Overview
Essentially if you break it down creatures within 30 feet of you and can hear you and make a wisdom save on a failed save they move in a direction of your choice. After which they can make another wisdom save.
Now what this means is essentially you don’t have to worry about getting hit, you don’t have to worry about enemies getting into you. And these movements do provoke attacks of opportunity which is really great, this synergizes super well with even the hexblade warlock.
For example persons right in front of you, you command them to go as far away from you as they can just around 30 feet, you move up 30 feet wacom again. I honestly really like this, i think there’s a tons of usefulness for it, it might be worth noting that you cannot move them into obviously deadly hazards. You may also like to read dreadful word 5e.
So things like traps wouldn’t work but this is just a great way of controlling the battlefield something else worth noting, it affects multiple creatures, you can also use this as a way to get them a particularly hairy spot. Also read what are the prerequisites for agonizing blast?.
