Hello magic casters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 66th episode of our first level spell series. Today we’re going to be taking a look at best sleep dnd 5e spell which is arguably one of the best first level spells you can pick especially at those early levels. It is usable by the bard, sorcerer and the wizard and it is found in the players handbook. Now let’s take a look at the mechanics here.

  • Range/Area: 90 ft (20 ft Radius)

  • Duration: 1 Minute

  • Attack/Save: None
  • Damage/Effect: Unconscious

Your cast time is one action, the range is an impressive 90 feet but the space in which the spell actually takes effect is a 20-foot radius sphere. The duration is 1 round which is all you really need. Please check out this is sleep good 5e.

The effect at a glance is as followed: Roll 5d8, the total is how many hit points of creatures this spell can affect, effecting in ascending order of current HP and it excludes unconscious creatures. Subtract each creatures health points from the total, before moving on to the next creature. A creatures hit points must be equal to or less than the remaining total, to be affected. Affected creatures are made unconscious; they can be woken by damage, or an action that is used to wake them.

At higher levels you get to roll two extra die eight per spell slot level above first. And the components are the holy trinity so you’re gonna have somatic, material and verbal. If you’re curious about that material component it is a pinch of fine sand, rose petals or a cricket which is pretty cool! Especially a lot of flavor there.

And naturally that’s to kind of accentuate sleep as through the pinch of sand it become like the sandman, rose petals are a strong aromatic and the cricket to simulate boredom. Description

This spell sends creatures into a magical slumber. Roll 5d8; the total is how many hit points of creatures this spell can affect. Creatures within 20 feet of a point you choose within range are affected in ascending order of their current hit points (ignoring unconscious creatures).

Starting with the creature that has the lowest current hit points, each creature affected by this spell falls unconscious until the spell ends, the sleeper takes damage, or someone uses an action to shake or slap the sleeper awake. Subtract each creature’s hit points from the total before moving on to the creature with the next lowest hit points. A creature’s hit points must be equal to or less than the remaining total for that creature to be affected.

Undead and creatures immune to being charmed aren’t affected by this spell.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, roll an additional 2d8 for each slot level above 1st. * – (a pinch of fine sand, rose petals, or a cricket)

Oh my goodness quite a wordy one. So essentially cobb breaks down roll your 5d8 subtract that total by the hit points of creatures in ascending order as long as the creatures a hit points are at least equal to the remaining total, the creature is rendered unconscious. Which is really great.

If you’re unfamiliar with what the unconscious 5e condition implies, so the creature is considered to be incapacitated, it can’t move or speak and is unaware of its surroundings. It drops whatever it’s holding and falls prone. Automatically fails strength and dexterity saving throws, attack rolls against have dvantage, attacks that hit the creature are considered to be a critical hit if the attacker is within five feet of the creature. Alternative Uses

So one of the cooler ones i have seen it used as is a great way to deal with guards. Especially ones that are just standing watch over a door, they’re not moving a whole lot it’s already quite boring work and it makes sense that they might doze off or not off every once in a while. So this is a great way to slip past them, not just undetected but in a way that they’re likely to kind of create an alibi for themselves and in so yourself. Don’t miss this sleep poison dnd 5e.

What i mean by that is there’s not gonna be a whole lot of guards who are going to admit to falling asleep on the job. So they’re just gonna tell their boss that they were up the whole time.

Another great way to use this is on trash mobs with typically low hitpoints. 5E is a very interesting game in the way that action economy basically dictates everything plays out. So if you’re confronted by a very large number of low hit point creatures this sleep dnd spells can really help balance out your action economy and get you a leg up on the competition.
