Shield of Faith Spell DnD 5E

Hello magic casters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 64th episode of our first level spell series. Today we’re going to be taking a look at shield of faith 5e spell this spell is unsurprisingly usable by the cleric and the paladin and it is found in the good old players handbook, so we should all have access to it and be able to read it at our own leisure. That being said, i actually really like this one. I like kind of how it plays out thematically and i also think it is a pretty good use to it. That being said, let’s take a look at its mechanics.

Mechanics

  • Level: 1st
  • Casting Time: 1 Bonus Action
  • Range/Area: 60 ft
  • Components: V, S, M *
  • Duration: 10 Minutes (Concentration)
  • School: Abjuration
  • Attack/Save: None
  • Damage/Effect: Buff (…)

Your cast time is one bonus action which is super excellent. Especially if you are more combat orientated class namely the paladin in this case. Your range is a fairly impressive 60 feet as well which is great for a defensive spell, the duration is 10 minutes which is incredible however it is worth noting that it is a concentration spell. For that reason its effectiveness with the paldon might wind a little bit, but it kind of depends on the circumstance and we’ll get to that at the end.

Its effect at a glance add +2 to AC for the duration. Which is super-great +2 to AC can make a huge difference in almost any fight i can think of. The components are somatic, material and verbal so it is a holy trinity and in terms of that material component in case you are curious it is a small parchment with a bit of holy text written on it.

Really cool stuff! And the school unsurprisingly is abjuration. Which makes sense because it’s protection magic basically. That being said, let’s take a look at its full description and just flesh it out a little bit better. Description

A shimmering field appears and surrounds a creature of your choice within range, granting it a +2 bonus to AC for the duration. * – (a small parchment with a bit of holy text written on it)

Once again that 60 foot range is quite impressive and if you’re out of healing spells when you still really want to lend some assistance to a friendly or a creature of any real orientation, this is a great way of assisting them without directly affecting their hit points. Fantastic stuff! With that out of the way, let’s take a look at its alternative uses here. In any case you may also like to read this shield spell 5e.

Alternative Uses

The best alternative use i can think of for this spell in particular is using it to better protect an important NPC or something along those lines, just because you know there’s a lot of quests you’re gonna be given that involve escort missions and this is a great way of kind of hedging your bets in your own favor.

So can i cast shield of faith on myself? then i would say..yes of course you can cast it on yourself.
