Hello adventurers and dungeon masters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the third epic boon in our epic boon series. Today we’re going to be taking a look at dnd boon of fate and i really like this one, to be honest it’s a common thread i’ve been noticing in a lot of these boons is they have the most incredibly powerful sounding names.
But mechanically most of them are pretty i don’t want to say underwhelming they’re good and everything but they’re certainly not as powerful as a name would imply. Boon of fate no exception let’s take a look at its mechanics. However you can also check out 5e blessings and boons.
Mechanics
When another creature that you can see within 60 feet of you makes an ability check, an attack roll, or a saving throw, you can roll a d10 and apply the result as a bonus or penalty to the roll. Once you use this boon, you can’t use it again until you finish a short rest.
Really interesting stuff! I gotta say and this is my first criticism of a boon. I don’t like the fact that it doesn’t specify whether or not you are allowed to know the result of the roll or not. It’s safe to assume that you can know the result of the roll before you apply the boon. But it’s a little tricky and to be honest i’m not too sure if it leans one way or the other in terms of wording. You can also check out dnd 5e boons list.
I mean i guess technically speaking this is when they make an ability check. mmm Interesting! I’d leave it up to the DM in all honesty, but yeah really interesting concept kind of plays very similar to luck and a very similar to the divination wizard and also kind of resembles a bless and bane a little bit. In any case let’s get to down to my personal thoughts on it.
Thoughts
I personally would probably allow this in a game. If anything i might actually even allowed as a feat. I don’t consider it to be broke and are really overwhelming in any way shape or form if to be brutally honest, i’d consider the lucky feat to be even better than this. You can also check out this demonic boon 5e.
It’s certainly better, i would say it’s better than the second chance feat which is the half thing exclusive but i just i would be disappointed if i did a major quest and got this as a boon. I might allow it for finishing up a characters backstory or for resolving some key component to the plot kind of like a miniature, kind of consolation prize tape deal. I would allow it for that kind of stuff but yeah that’s just my personal thoughts on it, you might disagree.
Conclusion
That being said, if you do please put it down in the comments as to why and please tell me if you just tell me your thoughts are on this. Personally i wouldn’t see a problem with it in any of my games. But if there’s something i’m missing please let me know. That being said, i hope you all have a wonderful day sincerely happy adventuring and happy planning everyone.
