In any case let’s take a look at the description here.

Description

First and foremost it’s worth noting that there is a prerequisite and that is that you have to be at least a ninth level. That does relate to your warlock levels, so it can’t be like a ninth level in total right! You got ask me 9 levels in warlock. So can you cast levitate on yourself? And it written as followed.

You can cast levitate on yourself at will, without expending a spell slot or material components.

You’ve still need to use an action though so bear that in mind. Without further ado let’s take a look at the overview here.

Levitate:

  • Level: 2nd
  • Casting Time: 1 Action
  • Range/Area: 60 ft
  • Components: V, S, M *
  • Duration: Concentration 10 Minutes
  • School: Transmutation
  • Attack/Save: CON Save
  • Damage/Effect: Movement

One creature or loose object of your choice that you can see within range rises vertically, up to 20 feet, and remains suspended there for the duration. The spell can levitate a target that weighs up to 500 pounds. An unwilling creature that succeeds on a Constitution saving throw is unaffected.

The target can move only by pushing or pulling against a fixed object or surface within reach (such as a wall or a ceiling), which allows it to move as if it were climbing. You can change the target’s altitude by up to 20 feet in either direction on your turn. If you are the target, you can move up or down as part of your move. Otherwise, you can use your action to move the target, which must remain within the spell’s range.

When the spell ends, the target floats gently to the ground if it is still aloft.

* – (either a small leather loop or a piece of golden wire bent into a cup shape with a long shank on one end)

Overview

You float 20 feet in the air for 10 minutes. You can use your movement to move up or down 20 feet per turn. At the end of the spell you gently float to the ground.

Honestly pretty great! Some things i would like to point out is this is a great way to stop yourself if they can fall damage without necessarily using feather fall it’s also a great way to send out of combat or ping someone from the air with your eldritch blast things of that nature.

The only downsite to this is, it doesn’t explicitly say you can move horizontally only vertically so i’ll leave your DM to kind of make that work. I feel like a great way to get around that. Because you’re essentially weightless right and the spell specifies that you can you kind of use things to pull you or push you.

I’m imagining a warlock with a grappling hook and with a rope naturally. Holds on to the rope and then casts catapult on the grappling hook itself. I would make an arguement that they would move in that direction, i think that’s a great way to do it or push comes to shove i suppose you could get something like a mage hand to pull you even.

That’s just my interpretation! A lot of you may differ or you may agree see where i’m coming from. In ay case i really like this one even from mechanical perspective as well as thematic one i think would be fun just to see a warlock in trouble just float out of combat, i think that’d be super hilarious.
