Frostbite DnD 5E Spell

Hello magic practitioners of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 13th episode of our cantrip series. Let’s take a look at frostbite 5e spell now that’s interesting little gem is usable by the druid, sorcerer, warlock and wizard and of course through extension anyone else with access to their spell lists and it is found in the elemental evil players companion which is a pretty decent read lots of spells in that. Let’s take a quick look at some mechanics here.

Mechanics

  • Level: Cantrip
  • Casting Time: 1 Action
  • Range/Area: 60 ft
  • Components: V, S
  • Duration: Instantaneous
  • School: Evocation
  • Attack/Save: CON Save
  • Damage/Effect: Cold

So your damage die will give d6 starting with one and going up at 5th, 11th and 17th level or a capstone of 4d6. The cast time is one action, the range is 60 feet which is fairly modest, the duration is instantaneous, the saving throw is constitution. Also check out this spider 5e.

The components are somatic and verbal meaning you have to gesture with your hands and actually vocalize the spells bow. The school is evocation and the damage type is unsurprisingly cold damage. Now let’s take a quick look at the description here. Also read is ray of frost a cantrip?

Description

You cause numbing frost to form on one creature that you can see within range. The target must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the target takes 1d6 cold damage, and it has disadvantage on the next weapon attack roll it makes before the end of its next turn. The spell’s damage increases by 1d6 when you reach 5th level (2d6), 11th level (3d6), and 17th level (4d6).

Alright a couple things to to look at there. So first and foremost constitution save very good at dealing with casters i’d imagine. Very poor at dealing with most mob type enemies though. The D6 isn’t a huge damage die either and the disadvantage of the next weapon attack is nice but circumstantially the spell could be pretty useful i suppose a nice feature about it is it’s not like array or anything like that there’s no real way to pinpoint the origin of the spell it’s in like a crowded area for example if your head we can see all day the frost is kind of forms over that creature. Let’s take a quick look at some alternative uses here. Click on dnd skeleton 5e.

Alternative Uses

The only one i could really think of was to take advantage of the fact that it can only be applied to creatures and through extension you could essentially use it to check for minutes. Outside of that i can’t really think of a whole lot of non combat related uses for this. Also check this article on 5e how long does poison last.

Conclusion

If you have any ideas though please comment down below i’d really like to read them and kind of see for myself but with that in mind i hope you guys have a great day and as always happy casting everyone.
