Today we’re going to be taking a look at ice knife spell dnd 5e and man is this a cool one. It is usable by the druid, sorcerer and the wizard and found in the elemental evil players companion.
Honestly super sweet! Really liked it, really good for thematically and deal a decent damage as well. That being said, let’s take a look at the mechanics here. Apart from this you may also like to read intellect devourer 5e.

In terms of damage it deals a d10 initially, +2d6 afterwards and an additional d6 per each spell slot level above first. Its effect at a glance is as followed: Hit or miss the knife explodes effecting creatures within 5ft. Really interesting stuff! The cast time is one action, the range is 60 feet plus an additional 5feet sphere. The duration is instantaneous, the saving throw is a dexterity and the components are somatic and material. If you’re concerned about the material component it is a drop of water or piece of ice. The school is conjuration and the damage type is piercing and then cold. Meaning this is one of the very few neat spells of actually the more than one damage type in a single cast. Description
You create a shard of ice and fling it at one creature within range. Make a ranged spell attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes 1d10 piercing damage. Hit or miss, the shard then explodes. The target and each creature within 5 feet of it must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 2d6 cold damage.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the cold damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 1st. * – (a drop of water or a piece of ice)
Very cool stuff! I honestly love this one so cool, so much fun to play with and so much great roleplay and thematic potential patch to it. That being said, let’s take a look at alternative uses here. Also check out ice blade 5e and 5e when to give magic weapons.
Alternative Uses
The only alternative use i could really think of was maybe surgery and even then i’m not too sure how well it would work in comparision to a lot of other items. It is cool that’s really what i can think of i mean maybe cooking as well maybe the only thing is it has to be aimed at a creature right! In any case you can also read ice sword 5e.
