Hello warlocks of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 5th episode of our eldritch invocations unearthed arcana series. Today we’re gonna be taking a look at one of the cooler ones in my opinion.
Today we’re going to be taking a look at chronicle of the raven queen 5e there’s ton of deep lore surrounding the raven queen 5e i’m not gonna get into it in this article i just gonna be focusing on the mechanical aspects of the invocation. Please run this past your DM if you’re planning on taking it all the unearthed arcana stuff, it’s gonna be playtestable material so it’s not quite part of the core rules. In any case let’s take a look at the description here.
Description
First and foremost there’s gonna be two prerequisites that the first one being you have to have the raven queen as your patron and the second being you have to have the pact of the tome as your feature. Really cool stuff, the raven queen the subclass goes to the raven queen is okay, there’s a lot of flavor to it but i don’t know i’ll get into in a later article. The description reads as followed. You can also check out raven queen warlock.
You can place a corpse’s hand or similar appendage on your Book of Shadows and ask one question aloud. After 1 minute, the answer appears written in blood in your book. The answer is provided by the dead creature’s spirit to the best of its knowledge and is translated into a language of your choice. You must use this ability within 1 minute of a creature’s death, and a given creature can only be asked one question in this manner.
Okay pretty cool stuff! A decent amount to unpack there, let’s get going to get into it in the overview section.
Overview
Essentially place a piece of recently dead corpse on your book of shadows, And ask one question out loud. The answer appears written in blood and is accurate to the best of the spirit knowledge.
Really really cool stuff! I really like this one. If anything i think it’s a little bit too good though. Reason being is you get something very similar in the actual warlock invocations namely whispers of the grave which has a prerequisite of being at 9th level unless you can’t speak with the dead.
So speak with dead lets you ask five questions but the corpse can lie to you. This one allows you to ask one truthful one. So i would put them on the same level. I would remove the raven green patreon and replace it with something like level five maybe would probably be fair.
So fifth warlock level and pact of the tome and then i would allow this one on one of my games. I think it’s really cool, there’s not a whole lot of like true mechanical combat benefit to it, but there is an incredible amount of utility and social benefit. So for that reason alone i think i’d allow it. Also read cloak of the raven queen.
Conclusion
In any case please share with me your thoughts and opinions on chronicle of the raven queen 5e i’d really love to hear it and really love to chat with you guys and as well as if you have any cool combinations, ideas or good questions to ask the corpse please let me know down in the comments beneath i really appreciate it, have a great day everyone and as always happy casting.
