Jim’s Glowing Coin DnD 5E Spell

Hello magic casters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 41st episode of our second level series. In case if you haven’t checked our other dnd 5e spells you can do it now. Today we’re going to be taking a look at another amazing spell from the team over acquisitions incorporated. This spell is jim’s glowing coin dnd 5e named after jim darkmagic himself.

I highly recommend you check out acquisitions incorporated in the C team, at some point in the future! They are absolutely hilarious and their book is certainly worth of the read as well. This spell is usable exclusively by the wizard class and it is found in the acquisitions incorporated module. Now with that out of the way let’s take a quick look at its mechanics so we can better understand the way this spell operates. Also check out our bard spells 5e list.

Mechanics

  • Level: 2nd
  • Casting Time: 1 Action
  • Range/Area: 60 ft
  • Components: S, M*
  • Duration: 1 Minute
  • School: Enchantment
  • Attack/Save: WIS Save
  • Damage/Effect:

The effect at a glance is as followed: Throw a coin to a point within range. The coin glows as though under the effect of the light spell (Don’t miss what is the light spell in dnd 5e?). Creatures of your choice that you can see within 30 feet of the coin are distracted for the duration on a failed save. The creatures effected have disadvantage on perception checks and initiative rolls.

Your cast time is one action, the range is 60 feet, the duration is 1 minute and this is not a concentration spell. The save is a wisdom and the components are verbal, material and somatic the holy trinity. If you’re curious about that material component is it a coin that will technically to a gold, the acquisitions incorporated uses royalty components as kind of casting sacrifices.

So what that means is this spell essentially consumes two gold, just saying. The school is unsurprisingly enchantment. Now let’s take a look at the full description here to better understand the exact wording of this spell.

Description

Of the many tricks and tactics employed by master magician and renowned adventurer Jim Darkmagic, the old glowing coin trick is a time-honored classic. When you cast the spell, you hurl the coin that is the spell’s material component to any spot within range. The coin lights up as if under the effect of a light spell.

Each creature of your choice that you can see within 30 feet of the coin must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be distracted for the duration. While distracted, a creature has disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks and initiative rolls.

And if you are curious about the way the light spell operates…it is you know, we’ve covered in a previous article so just to go over quickly it is essentially 20 feet of bright light followed by another 20 feet of dim light. So total of 40 feet makes sense! They can be blocked but whatever no problem. It essentially gives off light.

So needless to say it’s a pretty cool spell, lots going on with it. Let’s take a quick look at some alternative uses here so we can figure out exactly how to use this. Also check out what is the volume of a gold coin?

Alternative Uses

So how do you use jim’s glowing coins? I think the best use for it is during intense moments or possibly even heists. If you’re stealing something you don’t want people noticing and if they do notice you want to clean getaway this is a great way to do that. Just give it the fact that it essentially guarantees your initiative is higher.

Outside of that using  this as a cool party trick would also be kinda awesome or even using it with more chaotic humor for example. Pantsing everyone in the local vicinity at a duke or archbishop’s wedding or something like that would be kind of hilarious.

In addition and i kind of touched on this earlier but ensuring a clean getaway. Not only are they gonna have problems noticing you but once again that higher initiative check it could really help out, especially if you use your initial action to dash. I think it’s pretty cool, i think it’s very neat!

Conclusion

That being said, if you have any alternative ideas, uses, concepts, questions, comments, concerns please put it down beneath in the comment section. Also let me know whether or not you would allow this in your game. I would probably allow it in my game but i don’t know i’m curious to see what you guys have to say. That being said, i hope you all have a wonderful day and as always happy casting everyone.
