Gift of Gab 5E Spell

Hello magic casters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 34th episode of our second level spell series. Today we have a very special one for you, truly i love acquisitions incorporated, love them the bits and pieces, they are hilarious. Highly recommend checking them out the C team has literally made me laugh until the point of crying so i could not recommend them enough.

This spell is called gift of gab 5e it is usable by the bard and the wizard and it is found (source) in acquisitions incorporated highly recommend picking it up, great read, so funny absolutely love all of them. Before we get into the potentially game breaking implications for this let me just go over the effects with you.

Mechanics

  • Level: 2nd
  • Casting Time: 1 Reaction *
  • Range/Area: Self
  • Components: V, S, M **
  • Duration: Instantaneous
  • School: Enchantment
  • Attack/Save: None
  • Damage/Effect:

The effect at a glance is as followed: Reshape the memories of listeners in your immediate area, so that each creature of your choice within five feet of you forgets everything you said within the last 6 seconds.

The cast time is but a simple reaction, the range is self, the duration is instantaneous, the components are the holy trinity of verbal, material and somatic. If you are curious about that material component it is essentially two gold or they’re called royalty components in the acquisitions incorporated book and they go into them a lot more and i’ll probably do a future article on them if there’s a demand for it. But it’s the rough equivalent of two gold that’s all you need to know.

Now when you take a look at the school it is unsurprisingly enchantment and that just makes a lot of sense, i’m not really gonna get too far into that. Now lets take a look at the full description and much like with all the other acquistions incorporated spells. There’s a little bit of fluff here but it’s kind of funny so i enjoy reading it, well let’s take a look.

Description

Jim Darkmagic is said to have invented this spell, originally calling it I said what?! Have you ever been talking to the local monarch and accidentally mentioned how their son looks like your favorite hog from when you were growing up on the family farm? We’ve all been there! But rather than being beheaded for an honest slip of the tongue, you can pretend it never happened — by ensuring that no one knows it happened.

When you cast this spell, you skillfully reshape the memories of listeners in your immediate area, so that each creature of your choice within 5 feet of you forgets everything you said within the last 6 seconds. Those creatures then remember that you actually said the words you speak as the verbal component of the spell.

When I met Jim Darkmagic, I wondered how he got anything done in that outfit. I have since learned that most of his talents involve standing and talking. His outfit is perfect for that. — Môrgæn * – which you take when you speak to another creature ** – (Royalty Component: 2 gp)

Oh basically you say something you regret, you can literally just take it back. Basically reach into their minds and scramble their brains if make them to forget about it. That is a fantastically cool, something i do want to point out that i think makes a spell a teensy bit game-breaking is that there is literally no save for it, none whatsoever…which is really weird. I would like there to be a wisdom save at the very least.

I think that’d be a fair compromise but as a spells written by raw no save very interesting, right! In any case with that mysterious tension built up well let’s take a look at some alternative uses here. also check out 5e familiar names.

Alternative Uses

So the best alternative use i can legitimately think of this spell being used for is getting information 100%. Especially if you partner it with a spell like detect thoughts this could be very cool! For example if you’re investigating a murder mystery walk up to all the suspects and say you are the murderer and i know it.

All well your body or even you using detect thoughts probes into their mind for an action, now action being six seconds of course and then by the time they’re done you use your reaction make them forget that six seconds. Very cool idea, very cool stuff! I really like it. Outside of that you could really use this to mess with guards. You can also check out this subtle spell 5e.

For example you can literally just sit there until you run out of spell slots and try different ways to get them to let you pass, try out different passwaords, try out different ideas, stuff of that nature. Very cool! Also it doesn’t say that you can’t do this in combat either. So it’d be very interesting if you punched a guard in the face and then made it forget the last six seconds i think that’d be interesting, i don’t know if the spell is actually allow that, just because a lot of it has to do with verbal stuff. Don’t miss this silvery barbs 5e.

So even if they forget what you say, does that mean they forget what you’ve done who knows, i’ll leave it up to the DMs on that one. Personally i’d probably say no, just to make this spell a little bit more balanced but honestly this probably isn’t a stall at having my games anyways. Also read gift of alacrity 5e.

Another great use is as the spell mentions using it on royalty. If you say the wrong thing to royalty, you are going to suffer dearly for it and even if it’s not royalty per say even if it’s something like a bard trying to seduce a dragon or something along those lines. It’s good to be able to take things back. Also check out this greater restoration 5e.

Conclusion

In any case if you have any alternative ides, uses, questions, concepts or concerns please put them down beneath in the comment section, i really do appreciate it. Thank you so much everyone, i really do appreciate your time, i hope you have a great day and as always happy casting my friends.
