Hello magic casters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 14th episode of our second level spell series. Today we’re going to be talking about what does the spell cloud of daggers do? which is a personal favorite mine, not just because the damage is great, not just because the spell mechanics are great but because of my personal adventuring group has some pretty cool stories with this spell particular or rather one story in particular.
It is usable by the bard, sorcerer, warlock and the wizard and it is found in the good old players handbook so we should all have access to it. Fantastic let’s take a look at its mechanics so i can kind of explain what makes this spell so good.

Your damage is initially 4d4 which is pretty good for a second level spell and in an addition 2d4 per spell slot level above 2nd. So needless to say your minimum damage is quite high for this one. The effect at a glance is as followed:
Inflict damage when a creature enters into the spell for the first time or starts its turn there.
Your cast time is the standard one action, the range is 60 feet, but the actual effect itself takes place within a five foot cube. The duration is one minute and it is a concentration spell so please bear that in mind.
The components are the holy trinity somatic, material and verbal. You have to gesture with one hand, the material component is a sliver of glass and that is not consumed so material component pouch would work fine. The verbal component means you have to speak forth an incantation. The school is conjuration and the damage type is slashing. Which isn’t terribly surprised giving the name but in any case let’s move on to the full description and just talk about the spell a little bit more.
Description
You fill the air with spinning daggers in a cube 5 feet on each side, centered on a point you choose within range. A creature takes 4d4 slashing damage when it enters the spell’s area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the damage increases by 2d4 for each slot level above 2nd. * – (a sliver of glass)
Great stuff! So something i really want to point out, no saving throws what so ever. There in there, there taking damage that’s how it works also out of all the melee kind of non magical attacks slashing has the least resistances to it at least immunities. Also read can cloud of daggers affect more than one square?
I think you have only exception as a couple uses maybe, pretty sure. In any case it’s really great, i like it the cool story that i have regarding it involves using this in conjunction with cheap wire, i’ll get kind of into what happens once we get alternative use but it’s worth noting that once again damage to the first time enters that area and that would include where it was casted and any time its starts its turn there so in one round, one creature could hypothetically be affected twice. So yeah! Be sure to take advantage of that, if you have the ability to. Fantastic with that out of the way let’s take a look at some alternative uses here.
Alternative Uses
So to further elaborate when we ended up doing this essentially rigged up a blender almost, using kind of diagnose conjunction in shape water you basically use an ice platform to advantage in perform want to heck of fatiality. So you could use for that blender alternatively being that actually does conderous spitting blade.
You could also use them to i don’t think like fruits, vegetables making new the most deadly cook in all the forgotten realms. In addition to that this spell works great when it comes to pit traps or restrains of any shape and sizes. Really anything that would prevent a creature from moving. also read can cloud of daggers hit multiple targets?
