Hello magic casters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you for checking out the 8th episode of our first level spell series. Have you ever been a druid or ranger who just wanted more than animal friendship who wanted to take it to the next level with your familiar.
In that case i have this spell for you, may i introduce to you beast bond it’s quite a serious step. Usable by the druid, and the ranger and it is found in the elemental evil players companion. Let’s take a look at some mechanics so we all know what we’re talking about.
Mechanics

- Casting Time: 1 Action
- Range/Area: Touch
- Components: V, S, M
- Duration: 10 Minutes (Concentration)
- School: Divination
- Attack/Save: None
- Damage/Effect: Buff
The cast time is one action, the range is touch, the duration is a whole 10 minutes and it is a concentration spell by the way. The effect at a glance is as followed, You create a telepathic link with a beast that has is friendly towards you. So long as the beast has an INT of 3 or lower the spell is successful. In an addition to being able to communicate via the link, the beast also gets advantage on attack rolls on creatures within 5ft of the caster.
The components are somatic, material and verbal which making a holy trinity spell. If you are curious about that material component it is a bit of fur rapped in clap. The school is surprisingly divination. I would have thought enchantment but i mean whatever wizard is thinking they knew better than i do. Description
You establish a telepathic link with one beast you touch that is friendly to you or charmed by you. The spell fails if the beast’s Intelligence is 4 or higher. Until the spell ends, the link is active while you and the beast are within line of sight of each other.
Through the link, the beast can understand your telepathic messages to it, and it can telepathically communicate simple emotions and concepts back to you. While the link is active, the beast gains advantage on attack rolls against any creature within 5 feet of you that you can see.
Very cool stuff! that being said, you can actually see how this spell directly builds an animal friendship 5e. And i think its really cool, that works that way. We have this creature of familiar you’re taking quite some like into and then you decided to build relationship little bit further by making your battle partner for lack of a better turn. The duration is 10 minute, but if memory serves animal friendship duration is 24 hours and it is not a concentration spell.
Now what that means is you’re gonna while be spantanious in active animal friendship could so be active and then you could use be spine do you have combat around the corner. I think that’s the way to meant to be used than i really do like it that way. That being said, let’s take a look at some alternative uses here.
Alternative Uses
I think it would be phenomenal, if you use this to make a mate shift familiar spy. For example use it on a bat or a bard anything along those lines and have a inconspicuous pannen enemy or skyred location for hand and reload the information back to the telepathic link.
I think that’d be a very creative and very good use of this spell. Especially for the ranger class i think that something that will ranger very much do. I like it a lot, i find it to be a very rewarding spell under the right circumstances and i feel like the DM would certainly reward that kind of creativity with inspiration.
