Don’t really know why you’d want to pick this one thematically i’ve a hard time wrapping my head around it. Maybe if you’re like pick the sailor background i think that being interesting, what it kind of fold it in so, so there’s a place for it. That being said, let’s get into the stats.

A decent AC of eleven by decent i mean it’s above a ten so take that with a grain of salt. Two hit points i’d roll why not to roll your d4 whatever it is that there it is. Do you know how fast is a crab 5e? there are two different speeds twenty foot of walk speed and 20 foot swim speed which is pretty cool! I wish it was 30 but whatever i mean technically crabs are pretty dang small, they don’t really move that quick in general, so there’s that. You can also read what dnd classes can have familiars.

In terms of its stats you know not a whole lot there. There’s a couple things is terrible at namely strength and intelligence which makes sense, it’s not bad for dex and con but not great either. It does get a plus 2 to stealth though which is comprable maybe i don’t know.

Blindsight upto 30 feet which is cool, passive perception 9 which is less than cool! and it has amphibious as well it can breathe in the air and in the water. I think that’s pretty interesting actually. If you’re a sailor background or even with the swashbuckler than magic initiate then i could see this being a very cool thematic familiar. Also read this article on what is the crab like monster in 5e?.

But for most spellcasters i don’t know it’s just a hard sell to me, i’d like to see you have more hit points and also like the speeds walk or swim speed up to 30 feet so it can always keep up with us. But i can see kind of wide set up the way it is. You can also check out this dnd 5e toad familiar.
