Hello magic casters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 79th episode of our first level spell series. Today we’re going to be taking a look at a very very special spell in the way that it is brand spankin new. May i introduce to you the one, the only acid stream dnd 5e.
This spell is usable by the sorcerer and the wizard and it is found in the unearthed arcana, i really like this one. I think it’s kind of neat. Now let’s get into its acid stream dnd 5e stats, so you can figure out exactly what we’re talking about here. You can check out dnd 5e spells.
Mechanics
- Level: 1st
- Casting Time: 1 Action
- Range/Area: Self (30 ft Line)
- Components: V, S, M *
- Duration: 1 Minute (Concentration)
- School: Evocation
- Attack/Save: DEX Save
- Damage/Effect: Acid
Your damage is 3d4 plus an additional d4 per each spell slot level above first. The effect at a glance is as followed: Creatures within range covered by acid, that deals damage at the start of each turn. An action must be used to remove acid.
So the damge is done at the start of their turn if that makes sense and you’ve got use an action or someone else has to use an action to remove the acid from yourself or remove the acid from you. That makes sense.
The cast time is one action, the range is self but it forms a 30 foot line very cool stuff! The duration is one minute and it is concentration that concentration is to maintain the acid so bear that in mind. The saving throw is dexterity, the components are verbal, somatic and material.
That material component in case you are curious is a bit of rotten food and it is not consumed in the casting of this spell. The school is evocation and the damage type is acid. Which makes a lot of sense and yeah i’ll get to my personal thoughts on this in a little bit here. Before i do though, let’s take a look at the full description to understand exactly what we’re talking about.
Description
A stream of acid emanates from you in a line 30 feet long and 5 feet wide in a direction you choose. Each creature in the line must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or be covered in acid for the spell’s duration or until a creature uses its action to scrape or wash the acid off itself or another creature. A creature covered in the acid takes 3d4 acid damage at start of each of its turns.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the damage increases by 1d4 for each slot level above 1st. * – (a bit of rotten food)
Very cool stuff! Basically you cast it so people down an acid at the start of each of their turns, they take 3d4 acid damage and they got use an action or have an action used on them to remove it. Very very cool stuff! They do not get to remake that save every time they take damage by the way it’s kind of a one-time thing and then forget about it. Now let’s move on to some alternative uses here and i’ll tell you my personal thoughts right after.
Alternative Uses
So i think this would work really well when it comes to executing a lot of plans, you can essentially eat up a turn and i would make a strong argument that while they’re being sprayed in burning acid, they’re gonna be panicking as well, so whether or not your dm looks at it like that, that’s their call. But personally if i had molten hot acid sprayed on me i’d be pretty chocked. Also read 5e spells that do acid damage.
Also this works really well in confined spaces narrow corridors and various other form of labyrinth is just because you know it’s a line. It does very good in those areas and its range is actually pretty decent which is really really nice. Outside of that i really like how this plays out for balances, it gives you a great opportunity to dish out a ton of damage to a large number of people consistently. It’s really cool, it’s really nice and i really like it.
Whether or not i would allow it in my game! Probably not, to be honest with you. I think it’s a little bit too good, certainly for a first level spell, i might make it a second level spell but i don’t know i can kind of see why just because acid so not good in a lot of ways. So i don’t know, let me know what you think though down beneath in the comment section. Do you know how does acid work in 5e?
Conclusion
Also let me know if you have any alternative uses, any ideas, any questions, comments, concerns, put them down there i really do appreciate it. Thank you so much guys, i really do appreciate your time, i hope you have a great day and as always happy casting everyone. It’s in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, and has been renamed Tasha’s Caustic Brew Bad news: It deals 2d4 damage instead of 3d4 Good news again: It deals an additional 2d4 damage per level above 1st instead of 1d4.
