Inflict Wounds DnD 5E Spell

Hello spellcasters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 51st episode of our first level spell series. Today we’relooking at a very special one in a lot of ways. Today we’re going to be taking a look at about inflict wounds spell one of the most overpowered first level spells in the entire game.

It is usable exclusively by the cleric class and is found in the player’s handbook. So we should all have access to it. That being said, let’s take a look at its mechanics here.

Mechanics

  • Level: 1st
  • Casting Time: 1 Action
  • Range/Area: Touch
  • Components: V, S
  • Duration: Instantaneous
  • School: Necromancy
  • Attack/Save: Melee
  • Damage/Effect: Necrotic

Your damage is a whopping 3d10 plus an additional d10 per spell slot above first. Making this one of the heaviest damage in first level spells in the entire game. The effect at a glance is as followed: Make a melee spell attack on a hit deal a damage. Pretty cool! Also check out this inflict wounds vs guiding bolt.

The cast time is one action, the range is touch, the duration is instantaneous, the components somatic and verbal meaning you have to gesture with one hand and speak forth an incantation. The school is necromancy and the damage type is necrotic which makes sense. That being said, let’s take a look at the full description here. So we know exactly what we’re talking about.

Description

Make a melee spell attack against a creature you can reach. On a hit, the target takes 3d10 necrotic damage.

At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the damage increases by 1d10 for each slot level above 1st.

Really cool stuff! I really like it, it might be worth noting that your familiar can technically cast this as well if you’re willing to go that road. I understand cleric don’t inherently get to find familiar spell but there’s a kind of ways to get it in games so it’s not outside of the realm of possibilities and that’s for sure. That being said, let’s get the alternative uses here.

Alternative Uses

I really couldn’t think of any in all honesty, it’s just such a cut-and-try spell. That it’s a there’s a not a whole lot of flexibility in terms of the wording. It has to be against a creature the coolest thing is you can use it you’re familiar with it, that’d be about it. Also read this what are simple weapons 5e.

Conclusion

That being said guys, thank you so much for checking out today, i really appreciate it. I wish you all the best and as always happy casting. Also read guiding bolt 5e | distant spell 5e | sacred flame 5e | spiritual weapon 5e |
