Erupting Earth DnD 5E Spell

Hello magic casters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 19th episode of our third level spell series. Today we have a truly incredibly cool spell in store for us today. We are looking at erupting earth dnd 5e spells guide. This spell is usable by the druid, sorcerer and the wizard and it is found in the elemental evil players companion.

As i’ve said on previous articles the druid has one heck of a spell list and the elemental evil players companion has some very flavorful spells and hopefully you’ll find this is no exception to either of those rules. Mechanics

  • Casting Time: 1 Action
  • Range/Area: 120 ft (20 ft Cube)
  • Components: V, S, M *
  • Duration: Instantaneous
  • School: Transmutation
  • Attack/Save: DEX Save
  • Damage/Effect: Bludgeoning

Starting with its damage you have access to 3d12 plus an additional d12 per slot level above 3rd. The effect at a glance is as followed Cause an eruption of earth and stone, becoming difficult terrain. That is of course in addition to the damage. Don’t miss out this mold earth 5e.

Your cast time is one action, the range is a very impressive 120 feet and the actual area of effect is a 20-foot cube which is certainly nothing to stop at there’s actually very nice area of effect. The duration is instantaneous, the components are the holy trinity of somatic, material and verbal if you’re curious about that material component it is a piece of obsidian which is pretty cool and arguably relatively easy to come by. Under saving throw it is a dexterity based save and on a success they only take one half damage. The school is transmutation and the damage type is bludgeoning which is kind of makes sense but whatever. Now let’s take a quick look at its full description here and and just talk about this spell a little bit more. Don’t skip this spike growth 5e.

Description

Choose a point you can see on the ground within range. A fountain of churned earth and stone erupts in a 20-foot cube centered on that point. Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw. A creature takes 3d12 bludgeoning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. Additionally, the ground in that area becomes difficult terrain until cleared. Each 5-foot-square portion of the area requires at least 1 minute to clear by hand.

At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the damage increases by 1d12 for each slot level above 3rd. * – (a piece of obsidian)

Very interesting stuff!  A couple things that might be worth going over. You can only cast this on the ground, so no casting it from the ceiling which i think will be pretty cool! But whatever, outside of that his difficult terrain lasts in perpetuity until it’s cleared. Which is very cool! Especially considering the duration is instantaneous….it’s very nice that also has a long lasting effect afterwards. Now let’s take a quick look at some alternative uses here. Alternative Uses

So i really did a struggle with this a little bit as so far as to say this spell doesn’t really have a ton of utility to it. It’s Pretty clearly designated to damage and cause difficult terrain, that’s really about it. That being said, a great use for it regardless is using it to take down a large swatch of enemies from a very far distance away. Don’t miss this earth tremor 5e.

So that’s certainly something worth considering. Outside of that this could be a great way of making sure certain plans you go off without a hitch. Really taking advantage of that difficult terrain portion for example. Also read this bones of the earth 5e.
