Hello sorcerers! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the first ever episode of our metamagic 5e series. There’s about 10 of them currently, 8 from the core rules and two additional ones from tasha’s cauldron of everything and we’re gonna blow throw them pretty quick. That being said, let’s dive right into careful spell 5e by first checking out its description.
Description
When you cast a spell that forces other creatures to make a saving throw, you can protect some of those creatures from the spell’s full force. To do so, you spend 1 sorcery point and choose a number of those creatures up to your Charisma modifier (minimum of one creature). A chosen creature automatically succeeds on its saving throw against the spell.
Pretty good overall! Certainly really helpful when it comes to high damage dealing spells like fireball however it doesn’t completely them from taking damage right…it only lets them succeed on that save which will likely just deal half damage to them so. It’s not quite as good as sculpt spell (dnd 5e Sculpt Spell lets you actually remove spaces from the spell, which makes it a thousand times better than this.) let’s them take zero damage if they would normally take half damage on a save. However it’s still better than nothing that’s for dang sure. It could very well save your team lives. Now let’s get on to my personal thoughts. what is the most powerful damage spell in d&d 5e?.
Thoughts
Overall i think dnd careful spell is fine. It is a little niche, as so far as to say you’re really good at only benefit from this from time to time, that is of course unless you have this nasty habit of using AOE spells on targets that surrounded by allys. In which case you might be really benefit from taking this and i know that scenarios sounds kind of ridiculous but if you’re doing a lot of dungeon crawling or if your DM is really strict on vision rules then you might see that happening more times than not. can you careful spell web?.
So if that is the case then this is certainly worth taking, however i feel like for the vast majority of sorcerers out there. This is just kind of meh. When it is useful, incredibly useful but for the most part i don’t know they could just succeed on the save on their own and even then if they’re squishy enough to be wiped out by it. Then odds are taking half damage and if it doesn’t kill the enemy they might be in just as much as danger of anything would be you know worse position right.
