Rally DnD 5E Maneuver

Hello battle masters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 13th episode of our combat maneuver series. In any case if your character loves to extend a helping hand to their allies and if that’s the way that they like to play the game then this combat maneuver is absolutely perfect for them.

May i introduce to you a rally maneuver with that hyped up intro out of the way let’s take a look at the description. It reads as followed.

Table of Contents

Description

On your turn, you can use a bonus action and expend one superiority die to bolster the resolve of one of your companions. When you do so, choose a friendly creature who can see or hear you. That creature gains temporary hit points equal to the superiority die roll + your Charisma modifier.

Oh my goodness, a lot going on there! Let’s unpack it down beneath in the overview section. It essentially reads as followed: However you can also read this trip attack 5e if you interested in so.

Overview

Expend a bonus action, and superiority dice 5e  give a friendly creature temporary hit points equal to the roll plus your charisma modifier.

Pretty cool stuff! Honestly there’s a couple criticisms i have of this and in all honesty out of all the maneuvers this is probably my least favorite for a couple of reasons. You can also check out this battle master 5e.

First and foremost it uses a bonus action and it has to be done on your turn. If it was a reaction and if the triggered requirement was your friendly companion or however you want to word it took damage then i would really like it.

Sadly when it comes to fighter 5e or anyone with extra attack that bonus action can be super useful especially if you take a couple levels of paladin and i do think that the battle master synchronizes incredibly well with the paladin.

The second criticism i have of this is it specifies that it has to be one of your companions what that means is it doesn’t technically apply that NPCs are friendly creatures. In any case if you have a question like what is the rally spell in d&d? then you might find the best rally dnd 5e spells from our picks.

So i mean i understand it says friendly creature in the second half so you might be able to argue it but it distinctly says companion in the first. So ultimately that be your DM call online i’ve heard people argue it either way but just as a heads up. You can also check out the article on what is the difference between brace and riposte 5e?

Another criticism is that temporary hit points do not stack in 5e, beecause of that this is kinda lackluster even out though especially at those early levels and you know adding your charisma modifier well cool for roleplay purposes doesn’t always make sense for fires.

I understand that charisma was a great stat and there’s a lot that belongs to it but if your character has a very poor charisma score then it doesn’t make much sense.  Also you know this is one of those maneuvers that are better placed by a feat in this case inspiring leader, this dnd rally feat scales a lot better there’s a lot more for you and it’s more reliable on the plus side you can use this maneuver outside of combat.

Since you get your superiority die back on a short rest, you could give everyone ten hit points which aren’t cleared into a long rest and then take a short rest get your superiority die back, everyone fills the the temporary hit points everyone is happy. But outside of that is rally a good maneuver? you know it’s not that bad, it’s just there are better ways to get the same result. And the result you do get is kind of lackluster compared to that.

Conclusion
