Hello zoologists of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 56th episode of our beast series. Today we’re going to be taking a look at the less exciting badger variant the giant badger. The giant badger is found in the basic rule set and it is considered to be a cr one quarter monster and providing 25 experience points on the kill.
This is actually the third badger we’re covering. The first of course being the primary badger which is considered to be a cr0 and then we covered the cave badger 5e a little bit earlier within the cr one quarter series. Overall i really do like the idea of a early level adventuring party dealing with badgers but i’ll leave that up to you. That being said though, let’s quickly check out its stats.
Stats
- Type: Medium beast, unaligned
- Armor Class: 10
- Hit Points: 13 (2d8 + 4)
- Speed: 30 ft., burrow 10 ft.
So the giant badger is considered to be a medium beast and that is unaligned. It comes equipped with an armor class of 10 has 13 hit points calculated by rolling 2d8 and adding 4 and has a movement speed of 30 feet and a burrow speed of 10 feet. Very cool stuff! - Keen Smell: The badger has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.
You’ll notice it has a little bit of strength, a little bit of constitution and his wise as well. Outside of that nothing really to brag about. Taking a look at his senses though you do see 30 feet of darkvision and a passive perception of 11 which is quite nice. He also has access to the keen smell trait which gives an advantage on perception checks that rely on smell. Now let’s quickly take a look at its actions here. Also check out this giant mole 5e.
Actions
Multiattack: The badger makes two attacks: one with its bite and one with its claws.
Bite: Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d6 + 1) piercing damage.
Claws: Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (2d4 + 1) slashing damage.
The giant badger much like the cave badger. It actually has two actions and they are pretty much identical. So he has multi attacks you can make two attacks one with the bit and the other with the claw attack.
The bite is a melee weapon attack, plus three to hit reach of five feet, targets one target and deals four piercing damage on a hit calculated by rolling 1d6 and adding a modifier of one. Don’t miss this giant wolf spider 5e.
The claw attack also melee weapon attack, also +3 to hit, reach of five feet as well. One target too. However the damage is a little bit different it has a six slashing damage calculated by rolling 2d4 and adding one. very cool stuff! i really do like the use of the badgers. I really do prefer the cave badger over the giant badger and i go over that a lot more in the cave badger article.
That being said, a good mix of these guys! Surely could not hurt and their bro speed is a great way for them to sneak upon unsuspecting party members. Also check out this dire badger 5e.
