Hello magic casters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to the 27th episode of our second level spell series over here at my spellbook. Today we’re gonna be taking a look at an awesome spell that i’ve been super excited for for a long time. Today we’re taking a look at Find Steed spell dnd 5e.
This spell is usable only by the paladin and it is found in the good old players handbook. So we should all have access to it. Although this spell basically does what you think it does, i still think it’s pretty amazing and i’ll get into why in a little bit here but before i do let me let me show you a brief overview of the mechanics here.
Mechanics
- Level: 2nd
- Casting Time: 10 Minutes
- Range/Area: 30 ft
- Components: V, S
- Duration: Instantaneous
- School: Conjuration
- Attack/Save: None
- Damage/Effect: Summoning
The effect at a glance is as followed: Summon a celestial, fey, or fiend in the form of a steed. It’s intelligence is boosted to 6 and it can understand 1 language. While mounting steed, spells that you cast on yourself also effect the steed. You can communicate via telepathy up to a mile. Also read what is the difference between find familiar and find steed?.
The cast time is 10 minutes, the range is 30 feet but the duration is instantaneous and the components are just verbal and somatic and the school is conjuration which makes sense cuz they’re summoning an animal. In terms of the verbal component i think you’ll be freaking hilarious to just say here. In any case let’s check out the full description here so we know exactly what we’re talking about. Don’t miss this dnd 5e find steed alternatives.
Description
You summon a spirit that assumes the form of an unusually intelligent, strong, and loyal steed, creating a long-lasting bond with it. Appearing in an unoccupied space within range, the steed takes on a form that you choose: a warhorse, a pony, a camel, an elk, or a mastiff. (Your GM might allow other animals to be summoned as steeds.) The steed has the statistics of the chosen form, though it is a celestial, fey, or fiend (your choice) instead of its normal type. Additionally, if your steed has an Intelligence of 5 or less, its Intelligence becomes 6, and it gains the ability to understand one language of your choice that you speak.
Your steed serves you as a mount, both in combat and out, and you have an instinctive bond with it that allows you to fight as a seamless unit. While mounted on your steed, you can make any spell you cast that targets only you also target your steed.
When the steed drops to 0 hit points, it disappears, leaving behind no physical form. You can also dismiss your steed at any time as an action, causing it to disappear. In either case, casting this spell again summons the same steed, restored to its hit point maximum.
While your steed is within 1 mile of you, you can communicate with each other telepathically.
You can’t have more than one steed bonded by this spell at a time. As an action, you can release the steed from its bond at any time, causing it to disappear.
Oh man! That being said, very very cool spell, needless to say a lot of cool upsides to it, i like the magic casting ability. I think it’s really sweet , i think it’s really hip, (can you cast find steed as a ritual?) i wish this was a ritual cast but you know but whatever can’t really be helped too much in this case. You can also check out this warhorse 5e.
In any case, i really do think that it goes pretty great with most heroes, the reason by the way i’m so pumped up about this one is i’m actually gonna do seperate category on mounted combat in particular as well as a breadown all of the individual choices you can make for this steed, so please stay checking for those articles. In any case let’s get into some alternative uses here. You can also check out this summon greater steed 5e.
Alternative Uses
So one of the ones i really like is just taking advantage of that telepathy. You might as well cuz it’s there anyway is there’s no material cost for this spell, it’s just time commitment 10 minutes isn’t that big of a deal. So you could very easily have your steed which has a really good movement to just scout our dungeons ahead to you since it’s a little bit intelligent he could make an argument that it would be pretty good at navigating most areas. Don’t skip this dnd 5e find steed smite.
So that’s how i would use it, outside of that this is a great way of travelling great distances on short lengths of time and if you have a wizard that can cast haste or you yourself can cast haste then that would be even better. And there’s gonna be a lot of plans where a beast of burden is gonna be really helpful to you as well.
Whether or not it’s moving heavy caravans, dragging rocks, things of that nature. I would more than doubtably allow an oxen to be pick in the place of a lot of these other steeds. So whether or not you would as a dm let me know down beneath.
Conclusion
That being said, if you have any alternative ideas, cool uses, questions, comments, concerns please put them down beneath in the comment section. That being said, thank you so much guys, i really do appreciate the time, i hope you all have a wonderful day and as always happy casting everyone.
