Dwarven Fortitude DnD 5E Feat

Hello adventurers of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking into the 15th episode of our feat series. Today we’re taking a look at another racial ability known as dwarven fortitude feat 5e. This feat is found in the xanathar’s guide to everything handbook and it is real interesting one. I’ll get to that little bit later on but it is very very cool regardless of how you use it.

Do you get a feat at level 1 5e? If you’re unfamiliar with feats and how they work usually get them every fourth level or so some classes get a little bit more than others. That beingsaid, you get them in place of your ability score increase, there are essentially other traits and abilities you can add on to your character to make them a little bit more personalized and just a better complement your play style. With that out of the way let’s take a look at the description here.

Description

So there is a prerequisite over this one and that is that you have to be a dwarf. I know the title kind of gave that away but i still gotta say it just we’re on the same page and it reads has followed.

You have the blood of dwarf heroes flowing through your veins. You gain the following benefits: Increase your Constitution score by 1, to a maximum of 20. Whenever you take the Dodge action in combat, you can spend one Hit Die to heal yourself. Roll the die, add your Constitution modifier, and regain a number of hit points equal to the total (minimum of 1).

Very very cool and it’s interesting what it promotes i’ll get to that later on. Let’s take a look at a walkthrough and kind of break that down a little just so we all kind of get it.

Walkthrough

The plus one the constitution, not really a whole lot to explain there it is what it is. It essentially lets your dodge action also get you to heal one hit die plus your con mod which was really cool. It means you can heal during initiative without the need of a healer which is very helpful as you might imagine. Let’s get to my thoughts on it.

Thoughts

I think this is one of the most interesting racial feats we’ve covered. Reason i feel that way is it it’s the only one that really promotes a gish character. So dwarves are usually meants to be a hearty combat frontline people but this one makes it so it promotes a dwarf.

Rogues and dwarf gish mages. Why am i saying this you may ask yourself! well you see rogues get to take the dodge action as a bonus action. So it makes far more sense for them to pick up this feat. Because they can heal as a bonus action that’s insanely overwhelmingly powerful. Especially at those later levels when you have a ton of hit die and it may just really benefit from this because of concentration, if you’re concentrating on a spell you usually need to use your bonus action to inflict damage which means your action for the most part is free.

So if you’re in a really hairy spa you can use your action to dodge and then heal up. I think that’s increadily potent stuff, i’m also pretty sure this feat would stack with durable 5e which we covered a little bit earlier. If that’s the case let me know down in the comments, i don’t see why it wouldn’t. But if that’s the case you can essentially get a ridiculous them on a hit points in with very little effort and i really like that it’s very cool!

Conclusion

In any case if you have any alternative uses or crazy play styles or cool character builds or stories involving dwarven fortitude i’d really like to hear them down beneath and i know everyone else checking this article would as well. So thank you in advance for that and thank you for checking out and as always guys happy adventuring.
