Hello warlocks of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 18th episode of our eldritch invocations unearthed arcana series. Today we’re going to be taking a look at raven queen’s blessing 5e invocation personally i find this one that’d be way too good for the way it is in unearthed arcana.
So i’ll explain how i changed it to make it a level in my games. It does work pretty cool mechanically so i think it’d be ashamed not to use it to at least some degree. In any case let’s take a look at the description. However you may also like to read shadar-kai stats 5e.
Description
First and foremost there are two prerequisites Of course you have a query that can the raven queen be a patron? and of course here the first is you have to have picked the raven queen as your patron we might get into the raven queen 5e warlock class a little bit later down the road. It’s a not very high on my to-do list if i’m being honest with you, but it is something we can do.
And the other prerequisite is you have to have the eldritch blast cantrip. The description reads as followed.
When you score a critical hit with your eldritch blast cantrip, pick yourself or an ally you can see within 30 feet of you. The chosen creature can immediately expend a Hit Die to regain hit points equal to the roll + the creature’s Constitution modifier (minimum of 1 hit point).
Super cool stuff! I really like this one. I like the way it’s worded, i like the way works mechanically. I just think it’s a little bit too strong with the prerequisites given. That being said, let’s take a look at the overview here and i’ll flush this one out a little bit better, as well as explain how i would change it up. You can also read shadar-kai 5e.
Overview
Essentially when you crit with an eldritch blast yourself or an ally can expend a hit die to regain the roll + the constitution modifier.
Really cool stuff in theory! The odds of you creating are quite low so i get why there’s very little prerequisites that way. That being said, i would also consider kind of a waste. So what i would do instead, is word it in a way where once per short rest. So i do it one of two ways. You can also check out this blessing of the raven queen while grappled.
First and foremost i could make it a seventh level prerequisite and if i did that i would make it once per short rest. When you quit a creature then you can expend do the whole hit die thing on a creature within range. So 7th level and you still need to quit. Keep reading dnd 5e blessing of the raven queen.
All right, i think that’s fairly well balanced maybe a little bit underwhelming. However if i could restructure where the prerequisite was 15th level. I would make it every once per initiative so once per encoutner or once per combat. Whenever you hit a creature with all of your eldritch blasts, so one creature all the beams hit one creature.
I know chris needed but all of them do have to hit and then i would allow them to do the hit die thing. So i think that’s a fair compromise so probably read something like once per initiative roll, when you hit a creature with all eldrtich blast beams. You can choose yourself or an ally within 30 feet they can expend a hit die and regain the role plus their constitution modifier been bubbled one.
I think that’d be pretty fair way of doing it, i could see a lot of builds really reaping the rewards from something like that and honestly it’s just a great way to first and foremost make a good use of hit die which i find they’re quite underused in 5e. And also provide a cool kind of gameplay mechanic for the supportive warlocks out there.
Conclusion
That being said, thank you so much for checking out guys. Have a great day and as always happy casting. Before i let you go, if you can think of any cool ideas and interesting concepts, combinations stuff like that please put them down in the comments thank you so much guys i really do appreciate it.
