DnD 5E Seeking Spell Metamagic

Hello sorcerers! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you for checking out the 9th episode of our metamagic series and this is actually a really exciting episode because this is the first meta magic that was really added to the sorcerers after the player handbook was released. If you don’t know this was added in tasha’s cauldron of everything, there are two new metamagics this being the first, the next being in the next article of course. In any case today we’re taking a look at the seeking spell metamagic. Which is pretty interesting name for what it is. That being said, let’s dive right into its description and talk about a little bit after.

Description

If you make an attack roll for a spell and miss, you can spend 2 sorcery points to reroll the d20, and you must use the new roll. You can use Seeking Spell even if you have already used a different Metamagic option during the casting of the spell.

I really like this man! I know we got like a my thoughts section, but damn this is cool! A lot of people read this and assume it’s advantage but it’s really not advantages where you roll two dice simultaneously and based on the results you go with the highest number right. From here you can check out dnd 5e spell list comparison.

This is little bit different because you know the outcome of the role before you decide to use this meta magic. So it’s not, it’s it’s much better than just giving straight advantage and in addition to that the fact that you can combine it with another metamagic opens up a lot of possibilities for me subtle spell really comes to mind maybe be twinned spell 5e to a lesser extent but for sure subtle spell. In any case let’s move on to my personal thoughts here.

Thoughts

So if you can’t tell i’m already a pretty big fan of it and i think it’s really nice. Not just because it’s only two sorcery points but because it scales really nicely. By this what i mean is, is if you’re at early levels and you take this you can potentially save yourself a spell slot being wasted which is always super nice in the early game and at late levels when you’re using those higher level spell slots and when you’re dealing with enemies that every single attack that they deal can potentially one shot you.

It’s really nice to have this in your back pocket to head your bets against poor dice rolls. However i’m not saying it’s 100% foolproof for example some of the best spells in the game don’s require an attack roll at all they require your opponent to make a save against it there are of course different metamagics for that but i still think seeking spell has a place in a lot of offensive based builds personally i doubt i’m going to get too much use out of it as i usually play support based characters.

However there are some spells with secondary effects that still require attack rolls or this would surely benefit in the long run. Also read quickened spell 5e | transmuted spell 5e |
