Bond of The Talisman 5E Invocation

Hello warlocks! Today we have a very special invocation in store for us. As so far as to say it is the first of the eldritch invocations that was added in with regards to tasha’s cauldron of everything and it is also the first invocation we’re going to be discussing that involves the pact of the talisman 5e tasha which was of course added in with tasha’s cauldron of everything and leads to some interesting gameplay mechanics.

Especially for those of you who support warlocks out there of which i count myself to be a member. In any case let’s dive right on into the bond of the talisman by first taking a look at its description and prerequisites.

Description

The first prerequisite for this particular invocation is being a 12th-level warlock and the second is having the pact of the talisman feature that you pick as kind of your subclass as it were. I’m not gonna get like packed to the blade all that other good stuff and it arrives at third level. In any case let’s move on to its full description here.

While someone else is wearing your talisman, you can use your action to teleport to the unoccupied space closest to them, provided the two of you are on the same plane of existence. The wearer of your talisman can do the same thing, using their action to teleport to you. The teleportation can be used a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and all expended uses are restored when you finish a long rest.

This is really really interesting and i do like this quite a bit. It really does provide an extension on what were we usually considered to be warlock abilities which i really like. By this what i mean is when you look at a lot of the 12th level or higher level invocations.

They seem to imply almost direct mechanical beneficits, namely in regards to a combat. However this is a incredibly powerful feature, that can be used in a more utilitarian or even role play aspect. Very cool stuff and i really do like it. Not to mention of course the obvious synergy with the exploration pillar of play. Now let’s move on to its overview here.

Overview

It really is quite simple essentially you loan out your talisman which can be quite beneficial in a number of ways at least for the person you’re handing it off to, providing them with potentially better roles and at some instances even protecting them from taking damage or dealing out damage that they take, kind of reflecting it back at the enemy. In any case we’ll be talking about all that in later or different articles.

But in terms of this article it provides them essentially instant travel and provides you with much that’s the same. So to simplify as much as possible while there will well they’re wearing your talisman. You can teleport to their location or at least the closest location to them and they can teleport to your location. Don’t miss this how many times can you use eldritch invocations?.

It might also be worth noting that this is not a magic spell, this is an ability. So things like anti-magic field are likely to be rather ineffective against something like this which i really do like and i think a lot of people are likely to exploit. In addition to that this can happen a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. Which is quite cool and of itself.

And yeah overall it’s just quite a nice ability. Relatively simple to understand at a glance however there are ton of implications for this. Namely what if the creature you’re teleporting is carrying an object or what if they’re grappling, what if they are incapacitated or otherwise chained up, what if they are dead. These are all really interesting things that your dungeon master may need to weigh in on. Overall however i really do like this, i just think it’s cool as heck. That being said, let me know what you think down beneath. Let’s get on to my personal thoughts now. Also read can a warlock get polymorph?

Thoughts

Overall, i think it’s fair to count me as being as fan of the pact of the talisman 5e as a whole and this particular invocation for sure. Once again i do count myself among the support type warlocks out there and i find that there’s been really nothing for us outside of the pact of the tome at least it’s been pretty slim pickings.

That being said, bond of the talisman and through extension pact of the talisman really have opened up a lot of the doors for support warlocks and i really do like that. You might find this article helpful from our website bond of the talisman 5e spells.
