Hello zoologists of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 48th episode of our beast series. Today we have a fantastic beast in store for us today and i love these guys especially in the instance of actual map building, i think they’re incredible and i’ll get into that in a little bit here. Today we’re taking a look at the cave badger dnd 5e monster. This is found in out of the abyss and it is considered to be a cr one quarter or 50 experience should kill him. That being said, lets take a quick look at its mechanics here and we will talk about it in a little bit further.
Cave Badger 5E Stats Stat Block
- Type: Medium beast, unaligned
- Armor Class: 12 Natural Armor
- Hit Points: 13 (2d8 + 4)
- Speed: 30 ft., burrow 15 ft. (when they burrow, they leave tunnels behind them)
So the cave badger is considered to be a medium beast that is unaligned. AC of 12 and 13 hit points calculated by rolling 2d8 and adding a four. Under speed it’s actually pretty unique so 30 feet of movement, and a burrow speed of 15 feet now something worth going over in detail is that this little guy leaves tunnels behind. And i’ll get what that means in a little bit here but its very important. Now let’s take a look at its actual stats here.
Cave Badger 5E Stats
- STR: 13 (+1)
- DEX: 10 (+0)
- CON: 15 (+2)
- INT: 2 (-4)
- WIS: 12 (+1)
- CHA: 5 (-3)
- Senses: Darkvision 30 ft., Tremorsense 60, Passive Perception 11
- Languages: —
- Challenge: 1/4 (50 XP)
He is actually quite strong and hardy. It is also wiser than the average beast which is really important. Now taking a look at the rest of his stats nothing really to brag about his senses however, 30 feet of darkvision, 60 feet of tremorsense and a passive perception of 11 which is okay.
Keen Smell: The badger has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.
Actions
So the cave badger is the first creature we’ve covered in any where series has Multiattack: The badger makes two attacks: one with its bite and one with its claws.
Bite: Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d6 + 1) piercing damage.
Claws: Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (2d4 + 1) slashing damage.
So only real difference is the damage between the two of them 1d6+1, the other is 2d4+1. One piercing and one slashing.
