Mechanics

  • Level: 1st
  • Casting Time: 1 Bonus Action
  • Range/Area: Self
  • Components: V, S
  • Duration: 10 Minutes (Concentration)
  • School: Transmutation
  • Attack/Save: None
  • Damage/Effect: Movement

The cast time is a bonus action which is really good. The range is self, the duration is 10 minutes and it is a cocnentration spell, meaning should you take damage while concentrating on the spell, you have to make a constitution saving throw also you cannot concentrate on more than one spell at once.

The effect at a glance is as followed and its dash is a bonus action. The components are verbal and somatic meaning you have to speak forth an incantation and gesture with one hand and a school is unsurprisingly is transumation. With that out of the way let’s take a look at the full description here to better understand what’s going on and how does expeditious retreat work.

Description

can you dash twice with expeditious retreat? This spell allows you to move at an incredible pace. When you cast this spell, and then as a bonus action on each of your turns until the spell ends, you can take the Dash action.

So really cool stuff! Honestly it’s a it essentially gives you the same ability that rogues get at level two and it gets in to use a spell which is really handy circumstantially for sure. It doesn’t actually turn you into a rabbit i just think it’s a cool one. All that being said, let’s take a look at some alternative uses here. You can also check out expeditious retreat vs misty step.

Alternative Uses

So the two i can think of well one of them is an alternative use another one is actually an application. So the application one is to move quick enough to either outrun or catch up two enemies. I think that’s very incredible. The alternative use is to speedily map out a dungeon or other at play area just run as fast as you can through it. If you have other spells up as well or other feats or abilities that allow you to kind of shrug off damage caused by traps. Dungeon delver would be an excellent feat for this. Dungeon delver combined with something like blade ward or even shield in some cases just stack them i think that’d be really cool and then cleared a dungeon and not really worry about trap damage to too much.

Conclusion

That being said, if you have any alternative uses or anyways you’d like about the expeditious retreat 5e spell use or maybe paired with other spells or feats or even any combos you want to try. As well as any cool stories you might have. Please comment them down beneath and i really like reading them and i really do appreciate it and i know everyone else checking in does as well. Thank you so much guys and as always have a great day and happy casting. sanctuary 5e | hex 5e | haste 5e | longstrider 5e.
