Hello spellcasters of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you for checking out the 28th episode of our cantrip series. Today we’re going to be taking a look at probably one of my favorite druid cantrips dnd 5e spell primal savagery. This thing is insane and it is usable exclusively by the druid and it is found in the amazing xanathar’s guide to everything. Before we get into the flavor let’s take a look at the mechanics here.
Mechanics
- Level: Cantrip
- Casting Time: 1 Action
- Range/Area: Self
- Components: S
- Duration: Instantaneous
- School: Transmutation
- Attack/Save: Melee
- Damage/Effect: Acid
The cast time is one action, the damage is a d10 which is pretty decent, one at the first level and you get an additional fifth 11 and 17th level for a grand total d10. The range is self, the duration is instantaneous, the saving throw would just be your attacker overs as the targets AC. Also read this shillelagh 5e.
The components are just somatic meaning if you just a gesture with one hand and no need to make any sound. The school is transmutation and the damage type is surprisingly acid and not too sure i understand why but the way it’s written. Now let’s take a look at the full description so you can really get a feel for the flavor of this spell. You can also check out strongest dnd dragons.
Description
You channel primal magic to cause your teeth or fingernails to sharpen, ready to deliver a corrosive attack. Make a melee spell attack against one creature within 5 feet of you. On a hit, the target takes 1d10 acid damage. After you make the attack, your teeth or fingernails return to normal. The spell’s damage increases by 1d10 when you reach 5th level (2d10), 11th level (3d10), and 17th level (4d10).
So super cool! Like absolutely amazingly flavorful spell here. The druid in general has a ton of very cool cantrips, very cool spells in general. But this one really takes the cake for me thematically. That being said, let’s take a look at some alternative uses here. Do not skip this strongest d&d monster.
Alternative Uses
So you can’t use this to target inanimate objects sadly but what you can do is you can use the fact that it changes your appearance to impose advantage on intimidation checks, i think most DMs would definitely allow that and thematically it makes sense. My goodness what a truly very good spell. Also read this strongest dnd race and also strongest dnd spell 5e.
Conclusion
That being said, if you have any alternative uses for yourself or if you’ve any cool stories involving this spell please comment down below i really appreciate it and i know the people reading this article would as well. Thank you so much guys, have a great day and as always happy casting.
