Tomb of Levistus 5E Invocation (UA)

Hello warlocks of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 24th episode of our eldritch invocations unearthed arcana series. Today we’re going to be taking a look at Tomb of Levistus 5e invocation. Is it the same eldritch invocation in the core rules you may ask?

The answer is yeah! pretty much actually. The only reason we’re really covering it, is to just be able to say that i’ve covered them all so, if you want to check out the main one you can do so that, there’s like one difference between the two and i could get into that right away here! Let’s just look at the description.

Description

First and foremost there is a prerequisite and that is you have to pick the fiend as your patron. The description reads as followed.

As a reaction when you take damage, you can entomb yourself in ice, which melts away at the end of your next turn. You gain 10 temporary hit points per warlock level, which take as much of the triggering damage as possible. You also gain vulnerability to fire damage, your speed drops to 0, and you are incapacitated. All of these effects end when the ice melts. Once you use this invocation, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Wow, the wordy one! The only difference between this two tomb of levistus and the one in your core rules would be the prerequisite of pact of the fiend instead the core rules ones has it at fifth level, so bear that in mind i guess. Let’s take a look at the overview.

Overview

When you know you’re about to take damage, you can use your reaction. Ice surrounds you until your next turn, which has 10 temp hp per warlock level. After you take the damage you are vulnerable to fire, speed is zero, and you are incapacitated until the ice ends at the end of your next turn.

It’s really good one, really solid i’ve seen it used to great effect. Essentially let’s use mays ability from overwatch for the most part it’s super cool, i really like it.
