Hello there magic practitioners of all shapes and sizes! Welcome to my spellbook and thank you so much for checking out the 17th episode of our cantrip series. May introduce to you the creepy crawly cantrip infestation dnd 5e usable by the druid, sorcerer, warlock and the wizard and through extension anyone else that has access their spell lists. It is found in the xanathar’s guide to everything book which is a great read tons of stuff in there a must-have for anyone playing 5E. Alright now let’s take a quick look at the mechanics of this spell.
Mechanics
- Level: Cantrip
- Casting Time: 1 Action
- Range/Area: 30 ft
- Components: V, S, M
- Duration: Instantaneous
- School: Conjuration
- Attack/Save: CON Save
- Damage/Effect: Poison
The damage is a die six hit dice which is kind of meh. I’m not gonna lie not it there yeah whatever it’s a fair choice it’s not the worst one but certainly not the best. Starting out of 1d6 and working your way up an additional d6 at 5th, 11th and 17th level. Mark capstone of 4d6. The cast time is one action, the range is a disappointing 30 feet, the duration is instantaneous kind of all fleshing out later. The saving throw is a constitution one. You can also read about fungal infestation dnd 5e.
The components are a trifecta, so somatic, verbal and material. In case you’re curious the material component is a living believe most people don’t use components it’s not absorbed in the process you can reduce it but just throwing that out there.
The school is conjuration which isn’t too surprising and even less surprising. The damage type is poison. Now let’s take a quick look at its full description here so to give you guys a better picture and what does infestation do in d&d?. You can also read about d&d 5e death ward here.
Description
You cause a cloud of mites, fleas, and other parasites to appear momentarily on one creature you can see within range. The target must succeed on a Constitution saving throw, or it takes 1d6 poison damage and moves 5 feet in a random direction if it can move and its speed is at least 5 feet.
Roll a d4 for the direction: 1, north; 2, south; 3, east; or 4, west. This movement doesn’t provoke opportunity attacks, and if the direction rolled is blocked, the target doesn’t move. The spell’s damage increases by 1d6 when you reach 5th level (2d6), 11th level (3d6), and 17th level (4d6).
So are you really in a multiple party or in a multiple caster party. I think this could complement very very well with booming blade because although the attack or the movement doesn’t promote attack of opportunity and certainly would provoke spell effects i think that’s definitely interesting way to look at it or any ground based effect really would be able to advantage quite a bit by this.
As well as uses some inclining i could imagine that’d be quite disastrous they probably fall down. Just as really really good spell in terms of different applications. Yeah really not bad lets look at some alternative uses here. Also read about d&d 5e light spell.
Alternative Uses
So i feel like this would be a great way to have enemy soldiers disengage potential allies. I really think that would work, in addition if someone’s guarding a door you could really get them to move out of there as well and a little bit more of a sleepy application if you and your party were contracted out by let’s say visit a bar owner right an innkeeper.
They wanted to drive the competition out of town. Infestation would be a great way to do that. Out of combat i would probably give this spells effect, i don’t know maybe an hour at most and just creepy crawlies crawling all over the place. I think the flavor to it is definitely there and i really do think it could be used for some quaint nefarious purposes as well. Yeah you know it just a great spell.
Conclusion
If you have any other ideas on how to use it, i would be more than happy to hear that more than happy to check them out.
